As small and as unnecessary as it may seem, cultural considerations for kids with Crohn’s disease must be made and not overlooked.
Aspects such as bilingualism and the child’s family background are two of them, which can play a large role in achieving a correct diagnosis.
In some sever cases, the child could have problems making basic needs known to even their own family members; moreover, there could be communication difficulty with those outside the child’s immediate family, leading to social interaction as well as academic difficulty.
Depression is among the symptoms that can develop as cultural considerations of kids with Crohn’s disease. There are solutions and treatments that specifically address the aspect of depression as it relates to adolescence, relationships and cultural consideration of kids with Crohn’s disease.
Other problem that younger kids might have regarding the disease are: feeling ashamed or embarrassed by the disease because they have it and their closest friends may not, there might be a fear of reaction from what their friends think and how they might be treated by it.
Other experiences of cultural consideration kids with Crohn’s disease, may experience are fears of reactions to their frequent bathroom stops (smell, sounds etc.), because the disease is somewhat rare in kids, it may be harder to talk about it with their peers.
Other cultural considerations in regards to kids with Crohn’s disease are: difficulties taking part in social activities due mostly to unknown reaction and the little awareness amongst other people.and friends, also feeling unclean and being secretive about the disease because it’s not well-known.
There is an immense amount of research in the area of Crohn’s disease and the cultural consideration of the kids, which are very important for their social understanding and quality of life.
